Butch Clayton’s 1978 Jeep CJ5 had two wheels lifted off the ground, a balancing act to show off the open vehicle’s massive tires, beefy engine and spare frame.
It definitely made the classic truck-like car stand out. His father bought the CJ5, a Wrangler forerunner, years ago. They set out to fix it up — a project that became more in earnest after a death in the family. “It helped get his mind and my mind off of things,” Butch Clayton said as the Goose Creek collector and his son William Clayton looked over the 39-year-old classic last Saturday.
